桑那奇斯 1922.5.29-2001.2.5生平簡介

現代音樂大師桑那奇斯( Iannis Xenakis)出生於羅馬尼亞，原籍希臘，後長年旅居法國。桑那奇斯的作品風格，廣受知識份子推崇。他先於任何現代作曲家，首創將科學成為音樂創作的重要工具，以精密的計算、電腦程式、數學運算式、機率等現代技術，加上合成樂器等應用，創作出一系列的管絃樂作品，成為世界級的前衛派頂尖作曲家。

桑那奇斯早年曾於家鄉希臘接受完整的科學訓練，本人精通土木與建築工程，並於移居法國後，因為在現代建築風格上與形式主義大師Le Corbusier合作而頗具盛名。

桑那奇斯的音樂之路頗為傳奇，據說他是因為在法國受到當時名作曲家Olivier Messiaen等人的鼓勵後，才自學而成為作曲家，並自成一格，影響當代藝術極為深遠，討論他的論文專書者眾多，並且歷久不衰。 桑那奇斯作品有時也被批評為缺乏音樂性，其代表作品有Diamorphoses、Duel、Bohor等，Bohor為長達20分的多軌樂曲，實驗性極強。（2001.2.6 Etat Lab, Taipei）

5th,feb Composer- archetect Iannis Xenakis is dead in his appartement in Paris sunday morning

Iannis Xenakis, caracter mystique of comtemporary music, born in Braila ( Romania) in 1922, as a young communist, in the winter of 1942 , after his physic & law study in polytechnic school in Athen, he joined the resistance movement anti-facist, seriously injured by a bombard in the war,he was arrested & condamned to death, he then escaped from the jail & move to paris in 1947,with his technic background,he find a job in the atelier of the famous modernist archtect Le corbusier, began with an assistant ,he played more & more important role as an architect in Le corbusier's projets till 1959.

In the 50s , he began his music study after Darius Milhaud & olivier Messiaen ,who encourage him to developpe his proper way of new methology .that is the stochastic formalism , based on the set theory & probability,one of his major mathematic-music theory. Also did Xenakis the first concert of the sound space projection in the festival of Donaueschingen in 1955. In the 1958 Bruxelles universal exposition ,he organized the very first light (Lasor) & sound(concret music)scene in a special designed shell-like space for performance (le pavillon Philips) at the age of 75, he was honored as a major scientific creator by the Kyoto Prize,(equal to the Nobel prize).

French president Jacque Chirac ,culture minister Catherine Tasca show their hommage to Xenakis this monday; "France lose one of her shining star.","He is one of the first who unites science & art in the highest degree" . (2001.2.5 Eric, Paris)
